Paederosidic acid is a pentacyclic triterpenoid that has been found in the roots of Scandens scandens. It inhibits acetylcholinesterase, thereby increasing the levels of acetylcholine in the brain and providing analgesic effects. Paederosidic acid also inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines, such as IL-6 and TNF-α, which are activated by IL-1β.
